Our systems must constantly be reexamined for opportunities to improve and overcome bias to better serve everyone.
Just as our society grapples with the long-term effects of institutionalized racism and discrimination, so do our systems. Even though there is awareness of this problem within our systems, the fact remains that the perspectives and priorities of people of color, low-income communities, and other marginalized groups are rarely translated into policy and practice.
Evident Change has developed the Data for Equity model to help social service nonprofits and other organizations build capacity, accountability, and sustainability toward increased racial and ethnic equity and reduced racial and ethnic disparities.
The Data for Equity model:
- Helps direct-service organizations collect, analyze, and use their data to evaluate and improve their services and programs;
- Provides clear, concrete evaluative data to funders that clarify whether their grantees are achieving service and program objectives;
- Expands the evidence base of effective solutions that reduce disparate social outcomes for families and communities of color; and
- Ultimately helps ensure that people in our communities receive the best possible social services so that they do not, at any point, need to enter the child welfare, juvenile justice, or adult justice systems. This will lessen racial disparities and inequities in those systems.
