Partnering in the Ways That Work for You
Evident Change approaches continuous quality improvement (CQI) differently. Our model is grounded in the science of how organizations actually change.
CQI in human services often looks like this: an outside team measures agency performance, produces a report, presents findings to agency leadership, and leaves. The agency has data it may or may not trust, recommendations it may or may not be able to use, and the same underlying conditions that produced the problem in the first place.
OUR APPROACH
We seek first to understand—then we build
Before we design anything, we invest in understanding how an agency works. We map processes, identify where meaningful data already exist, and look for ways that an agency’s current practices can support CQI without requiring them to build something new. The goal is to co-design an approach that fits the agency, not one that layers unfamiliar demands on top of an already stretched workforce.
The most important data points we identify are ones grounded in an agency’s own processes and definitions of success. Improvement happens when the people closest to the work (frontline practitioners, supervisors, and implementation teams) understand what the data say, trust that the data reflect their reality, and have the tools and relationships to act.
HOW WE COLLECT AND USE DATA
Multiple windows into what is currently happening
Effective CQI is not built on a single data source. We work with organizations to identify the right combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. We select approaches that are feasible given agencies’ current capacity and that can tell a coherent story about practice.
| Case Review We undertake a structured review of cases against shared definitions of success. This work is tailored to reflect your practice model and anchored in indicators that matter to your agency. | Observations We directly observe practice in context to capture what happens in real workflow conditions that case files and administrative data can’t fully reflect. | Interviews and Focus Groups We hold structured conversations with frontline staff, supervisors, and implementation teams to surface the story behind the data and identify barriers to practice. |
| Staff Surveys These surveys produce scalable, repeatable measures of workforce perceptions, confidence, and practice alignment. These are especially useful for tracking change over time. | Administrative Data We leverage what your system already tracks by identifying which existing data points are most meaningful and communicable before adding anything new. | The Big Picture We combine these sources deliberately to ensure that findings reflect converging evidence rather than the limits of any one method or data stream. |
TWO WAYS WE WORK
We build what you can own, or stay in the room with you
Depending on the organization’s goals, capacity, and timeline, we work in two modes and can move between them over the course of a partnership.
- Capacity building: Building the system
Some partners need CQI infrastructure they can own and operate independently. We work alongside implementation teams to design these systems together from the start, using participatory methods that center your staff, your data environment, and your organizational reality. The goal is a learning system your team trusts and can run. - Ongoing partnership: Embedded learning
Other engagements call for us to stay in the room. In longer-term partnerships, we function as embedded learning colleagues alongside implementation teams, helping interpret data, adapt approaches, and sustain momentum through the complexity of real-world implementation. We don’t hand off findings and move on. We think through them with you.
RELATED WORK
Supporting CQI from all angles
Quality improvement is most effective when connected to strong evaluation infrastructure, meaningful data, shared communication strategies, and agreement about what success looks like. Explore how our other capabilities support and intersect with this work.
| Evaluation & Research Building the evidence base that informs what gets measured and improved. | Data & Process Intelligence Surfacing what is actually happening in your system, not just what should be. | Risk Assessment Ensuring the tools practitioners use are locally validated and built for trust. |
| Technical Assistance Translating research into practice through direct, ongoing support. | Workload Management Aligning staff capacity with practice demands so improvement is possible. | Training & Workforce Development Building the practitioner skills that CQI systems depend on. |
