Selected counties in Michigan have been using actuarially-based CPS risk assessment since 1992, based on research conducted on Michigan cases substantiated in 1987. In the fall of 1994, CRC conducted a revalidation study to determine how well those risk assessment instruments did in discriminating between families with high or low probabilities of future abuse or neglect, and to determine if the instruments could be improved. This report summarizes findings from the validation study and addresses issues raised by workers.
