We’ve Normalized Prison
October 28, 2019 | by Piper Kerman | The Washington Post Magazine
Piper Kerman, author of Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison and a previous NCCD Media for a Just Society Awards guest judge, shares her thoughts on the US prison system in an essay for the most recent issue of The Washington Post Magazine. Far from solving our nation’s problems, Kerman says, “the carceral state is causing a massive one.” Along with Kerman, several people who are currently incarcerated or on probation wrote pieces on various topics for this “special prison issue” of the magazine. All of the articles can be accessed here.
