U.S. Department of Education Releases Guidance to Improve Educational Outcomes of Children and Youth in Foster Care

Approximately 400,000 children and youth–many of whom struggle to succeed educationally–are in foster care in the United States at any given time. To raise awareness and prioritize the issue, the US Department of Education has released a package of resources to address the specific needs of foster care students.

To raise awareness and prioritize the issue, the US Department of Education has released a package of resources to address the specific needs of foster care students. The resources included new guidance for school officers, a webpage on new foster care initiatives, and the issuance of a joint letter with the US Department of Health and Human Services to education authorities about increasing educational stability for students in foster care.
