A yearlong investigation that began with prisons and led to the foster care system informed a six-part series published today in The Kansas City Star. The series focuses on youth who aged out of the foster care system at 18 with no family support and often no education or job skills. The childhood histories they bring to adulthood can be extremely tumultuous. One young man interviewed for the report said he lived in 80 different foster homes between the ages of three and 14. Now age 20, his “home” is the Hutchinson [Kansas] Correctional Facility. Read the whole series here.
