The sheriff’s department in Riverside County, California, recently adopted a policy addressing how law enforcement and corrections staff serve and interact with the transgender community. The policy focuses on protocol when arresting, searching, or taking transgender people into custody, and builds on the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
