In this Cap Times op-ed, NCCD’s Vice President, Kathy Park, urges Wisconsin’s child welfare and juvenile justice systems to prioritize the role of equity when it comes to decision making by using evidence-based practices. Bringing research-based models and risk assessments to Wisconsin’s social service systems could help ameliorate the extreme racial disparities Wisconsin faces. “Any meaningful attempt to face our issues around race and equity requires more than good intentions.” Park says, “Research helps us test our assumptions and keeps us accountable for our policies and practices.”
