This year’s winners represented the best of social justice journalism in the last year. Audience members got to meet and talk with the winners, as well as learn more about their work. Distinguished Achievement Award in Nonfiction honoree Dr. Andrew Solomon, author of Far From the Tree, spoke about the stigmas faced by families of young people who have committed crimes and made the argument for a justice system—and a society—that sees these young people in a more nuanced way. Guests took home a signed copy of Far From the Tree, a gift from NCCD.
We are already planning the 2014 Media for a Just Society Awards. Next year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, and we hope you’ll join us. Look for information over the coming year.
Please help us ensure that the Media for a Just Society Awards recognizes the best work on criminal and juvenile justice, child welfare and adult protection.
