It is estimated that roughly 40% of the United States’ young homeless population identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). This article discusses why that is and how these individuals navigate the streets, the shelter system, and having a gender identity that is often stigmatized by their families and society at large.
