The discussion focused on OJJDP’s work and major initiatives as they relate to the opportunities and challenges in California. Melodee Hanes addressed topics such as: school discipline and school-to-prison pipeline issues; the Attorney General’s Defending Childhood Task Force, its past hearings, upcoming report, and work around children exposed to violence; the recently released Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards; and healthy developmental tracks for those involved in the juvenile justice system.
