The 2015 Second Chance Act (SCA) and Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) National Conferences will take place December 14–18 in Washington, DC. The current political moment has increased our society’s awareness of the overrepresentation in the criminal justice system of individuals with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders; and many are asking questions on how to best address these issues. The conferences will discuss reentry, behavioral health, and criminal justice reform, including what works in the criminal justice system, how to improve the outcomes of people with mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders who are involved with the criminal justice system, and how best to reduce recidivism. These conferences represent a unique opportunity for SCA and JMHCP grant recipients to engage with experts in the field and interact with fellow practitioners from around the country to learn about evidence-based practices; promising approaches to reducing recidivism; and improving outcomes for people released from prisons, jails, and juvenile correctional facilities.
